Criticisms are narrowly focused

Let’s face it: when you are determined to lead a career that’s different to the norm, you’ve got to be prepared to face criticism. Often, it’s narrowly focused. With a job like world record-breaking, I think I fit that category well. But thankfully, it’s not only criticisms I receive.

As I make more and more world record attempts, I accumulate knowledge very specific to my lifestyle, of profession, if you will. While trying to ignore negative comments (except for those which are positively constructive and appreciated), I work on ways to identify and then apply what I am constantly learning. In a weird way, the criticism I receive might actually be helping me to focus on what’s more positive and useful – so thanks to those who scorn me; you could be helping a lot!

If you follow my website, you will know that I speak in schools, I license photographs and I’m available for (preferably) non-profits wanting to expose themselves with world record attempt projects. But that’s not all, and if you ever got into my game, I’d encourage you to broaden your “footprint” as well.

A little-known and seldom visited page on my website is the For Hire one. Top of the list is a blueprint for moulding solid metal bottle caps around curves and along undulating surfaces. It took me months to work out how to do this neatly, professionally and systematically. So, it also made sense to compile a guide for others who wish to get straight into the action, if they tackle a similar project.

And let me be clear: any criticisms I may have received while battling to figure out the methods described in this guide, I’d probably forgotten the day I heard. Such was my utter focus and determination to overcome what engineers had told me was “impossible”. No, not any more. If you want to know how for yourself, license and read the guide.
