Spit that cork!

I’m not particularly impressed by my own world record feats, to tell the truth. Well, that’s regarding some of the time. For instance, the last time I spat a champagne cork, I had the breeze in my face so of course the cork didn’t go far. Yes, I got media attention for that, but I wasn’t overjoyed with my achievement.

Tomorrow, on the south-western coast of Australia, I will once again attempt to spit a cork as far as I can. This time, naturally I hope there’s no breeze, and I hope I can cock my head back far enough to really send that cork flying. It could be that I’m about to retake my previous cork-spitting world record, and how I’d love to.

I’ve been searching for a champagne cork for days, and had no success at doing so. Then I entered a drive-through bottle store and found just what I wanted: a mushroom-shaped cork like the one I used for the previous attempt. It goes without saying that I bought the champagne on the spot, and got talking to the shop staff.

As often happens, the folks in the shop took an interest and soon they were surfing my world records website. How cool is that? I like it very much when that happens, and will feel more confident about my website tomorrow once I’ve tried this cork-spitting. That’s because I don’t want visitors to my website to think I’m able to deliver more than I actually can – but we’ll see what takes place in the morning.

In the end, I enjoy the achieving and I love the attention. So tonight I’m breathing deeply, hoping to prepare my lungs for a good day of spitting. Can I do it? Who knows; and I’ll certainly try. One reason is because I’ve got a radio station and a magazine chasing me at the moment, so wouldn’t it be nice to report some freshly attempted world records? You bet.
