Light dancing on the wall – compliments of Contact Left

People ask me, “So what world records have you broken recently?”

Their question would often better be phrased as, “What sort of world record planning have you been up to?” because that’s where I spend the bulk of my time. Yes, as in any industry, people spend great amounts of time on background management. It is no different for me.

Now, to answer this question above, before you begin wondering, let me explain. In the past month or so I haven’t landed any new world records, although I have attempted a few quick ones. Instead of being on show recently, I’ve been quietly working on matters which will allow me to attempt even more world records. It all comes down to strategy, I think. And that strategy – for me right now – includes emailing endlessly, searching for tools and services needed.

Along my emailing exploits, I came across an interesting online shop, Contact Left. These guys are in England, which happens to be roughly at the furthest point across the planet to where I am. When I realised this, my first question to them was if they deliver to the Pacific because there was no business here which has the goods I want. That’s when the fun started.

Dave’s store was so interesting, I even told him I’d probably buy everything in it if I’d been in the UK. No matter what world record title I thought of, it seemed Dave had a gadget I could use for it. How wonderful! Mind you, can you imagine my frustration at being so far from the Contact Left shop?

I sat behind my computer, almost drooling at the wide variety of camping, outdoors, fishing, survival and expedition items in the online store. Then Dave snapped me out of my trance-like state by suggesting he send me the items I’d need to enable me to try a few world records in 2013. As you can imagine, I whipped myself into a mood of ecstasy.

I bought a few goodies, and when they arrived – promptly, I might add – I pushed aside all the office duties I had on my list for the day, and went to play with my new heliograph and firesteel. I was totally hooked. Within minutes, I’d decorated the neighbour’s house with light patterns reflected off my tiny 15g mirror. Then I made a small fire in my kitchen sink with the handy firesteel!

Ok, that might be a little radical. But remember, these things are like food to a baby – I love it! So now I can get on with my plans for 2013, and I assure you, my new goods from Contact Left will be in the mix.

So, although Dave is far from me now, I know where to go for honest and speedy service for my bush survival needs. Dave, you’re a champion, not only there in the UK, but also to my friends who’ve been impressed by your customer service.

Now, please excuse me… I’ve got world record admin to attend to. Plus, I’ve got fire smoke to get out of my kitchen, and the neighbour might come knocking to ask why I drew light signals all over his house!
