Jelly beans across the UK – enquiry

Record breakers typically get a stream of enquiries about their work, and my latest is from British media in the lead up to the UK’s National Jelly Bean Day. In April, the UK will celebrate a special day to do with things jelly bean. It was my pleasure to be asked to take part in some way, which is set to turn out as a magazine article.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be finding out how the media wish me to participate, and if I’ll be asked to show my skill with jelly beans for the UK public to watch. I hope so! In the meantime, I’ve submitted answers to a raft of questions put to me and look forward to seeing the info spread across media in Britain, come April.

It’s not the first time my jelly bean-sorting skills have attracted attention. Last year, a Canadian TV channel got in touch because they could see an interesting aspect to what I’d done. Their interest was in using my activity to depict mathematics to young children, to encourage them to learn division in a novel fashion. Of course, the Canadian TV producers could have chosen anything to illustrate division, and it was pretty cool that they wanted to work with me.

I’ve noticed, too, that this world record of mine has stood for quite some time. That’s unusual in the fast-paced world of record-breaking, especially for the titles which are relatively easy to beat. Quite clearly, this title’s a bit of a challenge. And that’s great, because it means I’ll hopefully have it against my name for a while longer. And by the way, I know why nobody’s managed to better me at jelly bean-sorting to date: I found a very special straw which I used, and won’t tell anyone where they can find another like it!

So, here’s to jelly beans and to the British folk who’ll be celebrating them in the coming months.
