I stood my ground on the original quote and eventually the staff member conceded, but I was followed to my room with suspicion and got the distinct feeling these people were ferociously greedy. Their eyes almost literally bore dollar signs and I was made to feel that the sum total of my worth as a person to them revolved around the cash I was carrying. One could feel the greed in the air. And there was a reason, which I was about to discover up close and personally.
