Earth day or business day?

Business rolls on as usual, with platitudes – such as one jogging to work on this day alone – being offered here and there by some of the aware public in different parts of the world. At its height, groups take to the streets, protesting the destructive monster-like culture we’ve created worldwide, and academics emerge from oft ill-defined locations to write furiously, speak passionately and lead educational demonstrations with zest. But is this really enough?

You be the judge. Tomorrow will be 2 days after the environment’s big day. What sustainable-to-be societal behavioural change do you see having taken place? What new leaves have been turned and how are people proving themselves by their new-found commitments? Perhaps, and very sadly at that, we’re facing an all-too-sad situation of “that was yesterday, but tomorrow I’ve got to keep making money”.

Or maybe – just maybe – tipping point is being reached globally. Maybe the entire human population is gradually (and finally) beginning to see Earth Day as one far too important to be lived as just another business day.
