A case in point

You may have read my blog about text-based advertising. It is one option for generating website exposure. This is a type of exposure which my own website supports on behalf of numerous companies. And today, a similar subject has raised its head.

Blogging, like text-based adverts, has its rightful place when it comes to holding a reader’s eye over a message you – the advertiser – wants them to see, register and (hopefully) take action on. I use blogging in other ways too, including to advertise others, without the need for side-bar ads. Here’s what happened today.

I needed an item from abroad. The vendor noticed an interesting world record listed on my website, and proposed a deal: the item in exchange for blogging. Smart! In much the same way as displaying text-based adverts on a website such as this page, blogging is a successful means of pointing readers to something specific. That’s important, since with so much choice of reading material online, channeling of a reader’s attention can be critical. And you’ve only got a second or two to engage them. In this instance (if the deal proceeds), I’ll be sending my readers to where they too can get the item I needed so desperately.

What this means is my blog becomes an advertising platform for a new audience, via someone who knew nothing of me before they saw my website. This incredible spread and inter-weaving of contacts means I can use my blogging for varying degrees of informing/persuasion in such subtly different ways, readers may not be able to tell what exact marketing forces are competing for their brain power second by second as they browse the web. However, when I mention a product name, readers would surely register why the blog’s content is what it is!
